12 hours within the two-year period preceding the renewal date, of which 2 hours shall include first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or other emergency-related courses.The remaining 10 CE hours shall be in any category that enhances the skills and knowledge of the massage therapist, including, but not limited to, professional ethics, theory and practice of massage therapy, modalities, and professional development. Distance learning courses will be approved.
The board shall adopt rules relating to the requirements and standards that continuing education programs shall meet to obtain recognition and approval from the board.

The Board previously did not accept CE courses pertaining to exempted modalities listed in Idaho Code 54-4003. However, the Board has determined that if any course is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage (NCBTMB), the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP), the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), or the Federation of State Massage Therapy Board (FSMTB), then it will be accepted, except if prohibited in Idaho Code 54-4004.

After that, they will be required to complete A minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education activities are required for the quadrennial renewal period, which must include two (2) hours in ethics, which may include boundaries and safety.
